SIALKOT, June 24: Police arrested three people on Saturday from Jandu Sahi village of Daska tehsil for their alleged involvement in desecration of the Holy Quran.

Reports said the three accused, Zaheer, Faiz and Inayat-all of them Qadiyanis, allegedly set ablaze the old copies of the Holy Quran on the premises of Bait-ul-Zikar mosque in the village.

The incident prompted hundreds of people, including those belonging to nearby villages, to gather at Jandu Sahi.

The mob, chanting slogans against the accused, set ablaze some houses, two shops and three motorcycles belonging to Qadiyanis. The mob also beat up some Qadiyanis.

On being informed of the volatile situation, a large police contingent surrounded the village.

The police shifted all Qadiyani families living in the village to safe places.

Later, DPO Tariq Khokhar told newsmen that Bambaanwala police have arrested all the three accused and the situation was ‘under control’.
