DERA GHAZI KHAN, June 24: The district council on Saturday approved its annual budget worth Rs2,791.330 million (Rs2.791 billion) for 2006-07.

Presenting the budget, District Nazim Maqsood Khan Leghari told members that Rs20 million had been allocated for education, Rs40 million for health, Rs1.60 million for agriculture and Rs10 million for those who died during official duty.

He said a sum of Rs30 million had been set aside for repair of government buildings and Rs40 million for repair of roads.

Commenting on the development portion of the budget, the nazim said Rs289.72 million would be available with the assistance of provincial government for new uplift schemes while every union council would get Rs0.5 million for community-based micro activity.

He told the house that Rs83.478 million had been earmarked for the ongoing development schemes.

He said Rs187.345 million would be available for citizen community boards (CCBs).
