PHC summons Shujaat, Qazi

Published June 25, 2006

PESHAWAR, June 24: The Peshawar High Court has summoned presidents of the PML-Q, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, and the MMA, Qazi Hussain Ahmad, on June 29 to satisfy the court about the constitutional justification of the tickets awarded by their respective parties in senate polls.

The court has also directed both the leaders to file written reply on the alleged irregularities in senate election by June 27.

It may be recalled that both the leaders had failed to appear before the court twice earlier. The court has therefore fixed final hearing on June 29.

Through two writ petitions filed prior to the elections, the journalist Shahid Aurakzai had raised objections on the additional nominations. The petitioner had also prayed the court to order for fresh elections on the respective senate seats.—Online
