KARACHI: 54 cellphones, 24 vehicles taken away

KARACHI, June 24: At least 54 cellphones and 24 vehicles were either snatched away at gunpoint or stolen by the bandits from different parts of the city on Saturday.

Police sources said that 22 mobile phones were snatched at gunpoint while 28 were reported stolen while four phone sets were reported missing from different parts of the city on Saturday.

Of 24 vehicles, one car was snatched at gunpoint while six cars were reported stolen. Five motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint and 12 motorcycles were stolen from different parts of the city.

Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Saturday issued directive to the authorities concerned to take steps to control theft and snatching of vehicles and mobile phones, adds APP.

Reviewing the law and order situation at a meeting held at the Governor’s House on Saturday, Dr Ibad issued necessary directives in this regard.

The meeting was attended by PPO Jehangir Mirza, Home Secretary Brig Ghulam Mohammed Mohtaram, CCPO Niaz Siddiqui, Additional Secretary Javed Hanif and the officials associated with law-enforcement agencies.

The governor said that under the strategy to control crimes, the city be divided into different zones.

He said that community policing, with an effective monitoring system, be extended to maximum possible areas under a well-knit planning and collective efforts be made to counter crime and dispense justice.

He emphasised on keeping intelligence network functional all the time with continued liaison among all organisations relating to law and order.
