Farmers demand water release

JACOBABAD, June 23: Activists of the Awami Tehrik and growers of Saifal Shakh and Moosa Allahabad canals took out a procession against shortage of water in Thul on Friday.

Procession started from the Riaz Chowk after passing through different roads of the town reached at the Rehbar Chowk where they staged a sit-in and observed a token hunger strike. They raised slogans against shortage of water.

Speaking on the occasion, Deedar Karnani, Dr Mohammad Ramzan Buriro, secretary of the Sindh Abadgar Association, Mohammad Mureed Jafri and Abdul Fateh Jafri said that it was third time they had taken out procession against shortage of water but no irrigation officials reached here.

They appealed to the Sindh chief minister to intervene into the matter and asked irrigation officials to ensure judicious water supply to their land.

They said due to shortage of water growers were sustaining huge losses.

They said that canals were not desilted since long time and 26,000 acres of land were rendered barren due to shortage of water.
