U-19 District Cricket: Islamabad keep crown with emphatic victory

ISLAMABAD, June 22: Islamabad retained their National Under-19 Inter-district (Islamabad region) title following a 498-run thrashing of Northern Areas on Thursday.

Having amassed a record 625-6 on the opening day Wednesday, the home side needed just over 27 overs to demolish the visitors bowling them out for a mere 127 runs at the Diamond Ground. Masood Ahmed with 51 was the top scorer.

Yasir Waheed, who took 3 for 15, and Junaid Nadir with 3 for 34 were the chief wreckers.

Islamabad finished with 10 points from three matches to land the title.

ISLAMABAD 625-6 in 90 overs (Faizan Riaz 168 not out, Imad Waseem 104 not out, Umair Mir 103, Nauman Masood Butt 67, Taimur Javed 59; Maaz bin Iqbal 3-132); NORTHERN AREAS 127 in 27.3 overs (Masood Ahmed 51; Yasir Waheed 3-15, Junaid Nadir 3-34, Kashif Ali 2-43).

Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: Fine bowling by spinners Ahmed Liaquat and Ghulab Singh enabled North Zone Whites thrash North Zone Whites by 267 runs in the Lahore region match.

Ahmed captured four for 33 while Ghulab took three for 38 as East Zone Blues were all out for 151 in 42 overs.

East Zone Whites suffered a 16-run defeat against West Zone Blues despite a patient 77 from Mohammad Naveed.

A five-wicket haul by Asif Ghafoor propelled West Zone Whites to a 33-run win against North Zone Blues.

EAST ZONE WHITES 210 in 65 overs (Mohammad Naveed 77, Mohammad Asif 48; Mustafa Iqbal 3-39).

West Zone Whites beat North Zone Blues by 33 runs.

WEST ZONE WHITES 205 in 53.4 overs (Yasir Ajmal 55, Qasim Ali 42; Imran Shafi 6-45); NORTH ZONE BLUES 172 in 63.1 overs (Raheel Butt 59 not out; Asif Ghafoor 5-54).

APP adds from Karachi: Paceman Zaheer Abbas snapped up six for 22 to bowl Zone-VI to a nine wicket success against Zone-I in the Karachi region fixture at the KCCA Stadium.

Zone-I were dismissed for 103 in 33.2 overs despite Hamza-ul-Hasan hitting 51 with four boundaries as two-day match ended on the first day.

Zone-VI in reply romped for the loss of just one wicket in the 31st over.

Zeeshan Jamil struck an unbeaten 60 with nine fours.

At TMC Ground, Ali Asad, a member of Pakistan Under-19 Workd Cup-winning team, blasted 126 to power Zone-II to 318 all out.

Ali hammered 19 boundaries in his 205 minute stay at the crease while facing 182 balls. He shared an opening stand of 176 with Sami Arshad, who contributed 54.

Zone-V skipper Adnan-ur-Rehman captured six for 122 in 38 overs with his off-spinners.

At stumps Zone-V replied with 14 without loss.
