Chinese nationals’ security enhanced

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 22: The government has increased ‘invisible security’ for all Chinese nationals working in the country in the wake of fresh threats of terrorism, a source in the interior ministry told Dawn on Thursday.

The source said the ministry had directed intelligence agencies to provide complete information about Chinese nationals so that better security could be provided to them.

According to a report submitted to the ministry by a civil intelligence agency, some 400 Chinese are residing only in Islamabad.

The source said under the invisible security cover, movement and activities of Chinese nationals were being monitored.

The agency informed the government that Chinese nationals had been provided private security guards at their offices and recreational places.

However, it recommended police security arrangements at these places on weekends.

The agency also suggested deployment of police guards at residences and work places of Chinese nationals and also during the time they travel from one place to another.

The government has also been urged to enhance security in and outside Islamabad airport and the diplomatic enclave which houses about 40 foreign embassies.
