RAWALPINDI, June 22: A woman was brought dead and her husband in critical condition to Rawalpindi General Hospital from Rehmatabad in the airport police area on Thursday, police and hospital authorities said.
Mohammad Saleem, 40, and his wife Khadija Bibi, 35, (mother of two) had been suffering from hepatitis for some time, the authorities quoted Mohammad Yunis, the brother of Mr Saleem, as saying.
On the advice of someone, they brought a herb from Ayubia and took it on Thursday.
After taking the herbal medicine, the couple went into a deep slumber. In the afternoon when they did not wake up they were rushed to the hospital.
Police said Khatija died on the way to the hospital.
The doctor who treated the couple told Dawn that the woman was brought dead to the hospital while efforts were being made to treat the man who had not regained consciousness.
Saleem was to leave for Saudi Arabia to join his duty on Friday.
Police said investigation was underway to ascertain the actual cause of the incident.
ARRESTED: The capital police claimed to have arrested three persons and recovered looted valuables from their possession.
A spokesman for the police said the Shahzad Town police arrested Raja Mohammad Faisal and Shazan and recovered a motorcycle (IDG 5608) stolen from the house of Tahir Asghar on June 2.
The Sabzi Mandi police arrested Omair Ahmed and recovered valuables stole from the house of Chaudhry Pervez.
