KARACHI: Governor for resolution of transport, goths issue


KARACHI, June 22: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has said the government is functioning without any discrimination to provide facilities to people and solve their problems.

“We can carve out an elated position in the world for ourselves and the country by bringing the world's 7th biggest megacity in harmony with modern day demands”.

He was talking to a delegation of the Pakhtoon Action Committee, led by Shahi Syed, which called on him at the Governor’s House on Thursday.

The delegation apprised the governor about their problems concerning katchi abadis, transport, police, employment, voters lists, etc.

The governor said that all those efforts would have direct impact on the common man and they would get due facilities.

He heard their views in detail and observed that those were not major issues and could be resolved through mutual consideration.

The governor asked the transporters to submit a complete list of vehicles burnt in the aftermath of the Nishtar Park tragedy and other incidents and directed the DCO to finalise these matters within three months.

He pointed out that talks were also being held with insurance companies so that transporters could get better compensation.

Regarding smoke-emitting vehicles, the governor said that everyone had to implement the orders of the High Court and for this there should be collective efforts. He said 70 percent diseases were caused by smoke and it was harmful for everyone.Dr Ibad told the delegation that the government did not want to make anyone unemployed and rather the maximum increase in employment opportunities was its mission.

He said the government would provide all possible cooperation for the transfer of two- stroke vehicles into four-stroke ones.

He spoke about the government’s plan of plying 8,000 CNG buses in the city. Under the plan, he explained, those interested in operating CNG buses would be provided loan up to 80 percent on which the mark-up will be paid by the federal government.

He made it clear that there was no condition of being matric pass to obtain a driving licence.

The governor directed the authorities to talk to relevant automobile companies for transfer of two-stroke vehicles into 4-stroke ones and get the transporters necessary facilities in this regard.

The governor made it clear that a check on accidents, flow of traffic, widening of roads and steps for environmental improvement would benefit everyone.

He issued directive to the authorities to take punitive action against elements involved in adulteration of diesel and oil.

Dr Ishratul Ibad expressed the hope that with joint efforts all matters related to katchi abadis, transport etc would be smoothly resolved.

The delegation leader, Shahid Syed, appreciated the governor’s taking out time for this meeting and showing a positive response to their suggestions.

They assured of extending all cooperation in the beautification of the city and for better environment. However, they sought protection of their means of employment.

They hoped that this meeting would produce practical, positive and encouraging results which would have effects on the country and particularly Sindh and Karachi.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Special Secretary for Home Rasheed Ali.—APP
