KARACHI, June 22: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has hailed the ruling given by Speaker of the Sindh Assembly Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah on the ugly incident during Wednesday session of the assembly.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the chief minister said his party accepted the decision of the speaker, who was custodian of the assembly. He advised the opposition to do the same.
He said MPA Ishwar Lal had committed a wrong act which was regrettable to his party, but the way the opposition reacted to his act was condemnable. He described the incident as “worst ever in the history of this assembly where four PPP MPAs breached its sanctity by beating up a member inside the house.”
He recalled an incident in the formerly East Pakistan assembly where the then deputy speaker had been killed in the house.
“Ishwar Lal is a nominated MPA, but those who have been sent to the assembly by their electorates should not have breached the privilege of the house,” he contended.
Referring to Ishwar Lal’s contention that PPP men would not have acted like this if the chit would have come from the chief minister or a minister, and said: “It is totally wrong because no civilised person or member would dare to act like this inside the house… assembly is not a theatre or fun-field where such funs are practised.”
Recalling that Atta Mohammad Marri, father of Ms Shazia Marri, came from a respectable family of Sanghar and had remained speaker of this august house, the chief minister remarked: “The late Marri’s soul must have been restless today.”—APP
