Cricketers get 25pc raise

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, June 21: PCB has decided to increase 25 per cent salary of the players under the new contract system from July 1. PCB chairman Shaharyar M. Khan said 20 players would sign the new contract.

Shoaib Akhtar, who has been on the injury list for the last four months, was retained in ‘A’ category.

Off-spinner Arshad Khan, medium-pacer Yasir Arafat and Shabbir Ahmed, struggling to get his bowling action rectified, could not find place in the 20 players.

The ‘A’ category players will get Rs250,000 per month instead of Rs200,000, the ‘B’ category players get Rs125,000 and ‘C’ category Rs75,000.

In case of winning both ODI and Test series, a player will get Rs500,000 as win bonus.

For winning either ODI or Test series, the player will receive Rs200,000.

WOOLMER OPTIMISTIC

Meanwhile, Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer said his team has bright chances of winning the series in England starting from June 25.

Woolmer said that though England had some advantage at home, his team was prepared to face the challenge.

He expressed satisfaction over improvement players showed in the one-month-long camp.

About the injury to Rana Navedul Hasan, the coach said that report about the paceman’s fitness would be finalised next week.

About Shoaib’s ankle problem, Woolmer said the scan report received on Wednesday had positive signs and the express bowler would start to bowl four to five overs in next couple of days.
