Law, order ‘worse’ in Punjab

LAHORE, June 21: “The law and order situation is really worse in the Punjab,” finance minister Husnain Bahadar Dreshak said while winding budget debate in the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday.

“Robbers drove away with three tractors of mine last year. Robbers carrying sophisticated weapons strike at will in Rajanpur”, he added. The situation in southern Punjab, according to him, was worse than rest of the province.

The minister said that the government would achieve all its targets and no development project would remain incomplete.

He said the government would initiate several projects with the financial support of the World Bank to market daily-use commodities in under-developed areas on affordable rates.

He said the private sector would be involved in setting up mobile utility stores that would benefit people. He said that Rs300 million had been allocated for the welfare of the minorities and the chief minister had asked the minorities minister and other members to spend it according to their priorities.
