FAISALABAD, June 21: The Madina Town Municipal Administration unanimously approved a surplus budget of Rs354.8 million for the year 2006-07 on Wednesday.

Town nazim Chaudhry Ali Akhtar presented the budget during a special session held with naib nazim Sajjad Ahmad in the chair.

Madina Town became the first in a row throughout the province by approving the budget. Most of the district government, tehsil and town administrations have, so far, not even started spadework for the budget document.

The town nazim said out of Rs354.8 million, an amount of Rs138.3 million would be spent on salaries of town employees, Rs105 million on development schemes, Rs60 million on miscellaneous expenditures, including Rs12 million on streetlights, Rs6.1 million on the purchase of fuel, Rs4 million on the upgradation of parks and greenbelts and Rs2.5 million on cleanliness.

He said Rs70 million had been earmarked for development projects on the recommendation of town members and another Rs35 million for the ongoing schemes. He said efforts were being made to get maximum funds from the Punjab government for the uplift and beautification of the town.

He said a comprehensive plan had been chalked out to spend Rs40 million through the citizens community boards so that these amounts could be utilized for the welfare of the people.

ARREST WARRANTS: Senior Civil Judge Suleman Baig issued non-bailable warrants of four cable operators for their continuous absence in a case filed against them for showing obscene channels.
