KARACHI, June 21: The government has decided, in principle, to computerize the system of issuing driving licenses, besides linking it with the national database.

This was decided in a high-level meeting held at the Governor's House here on Wednesday.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, presiding over the meeting, asked the home department to finalize a comprehensive strategy in consultation with other related departments within a month.

The director-general of Nadra Sindh, Brig. Abid Haider Kazmi, told the meeting about the methodology to computerize the driving license system on modern lines.

He said in this first phase, this system would be implemented in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur and later extended to the reminding areas of the province. All offices related to the issuing driving licenses would be linked to a joint network.

Dr Ibad asked the relevant officials to contact other provinces and the federal government in this regard. He hoped that positive results would be obtained for implementing this modern system throughout the country.

He said the new system was aimed at simplifying the driving license issuing process and making it transparent.

Meanwhile, Dr Ishratul Ibad visited Bagh Ibne Qasim, Jehangr Kothari Parade, Clifton Beach Park and the ongoing development works around the Mazar of Abdullah Shah Ghazi, and directed the authorities concerned to accelerate the pace of work and strictly adhere to quality.

He said various development projects were under way in Karachi and people would get a relief after their completion, adding construction of roads, flyovers and underpasses would solve traffic problems in the metropolis.

Later, he visited Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine and inspected ongoing renovation and beautification work on the shrine. He laid a wreath on the saint's mazar and offered Fateha.—PPI
