KARACHI, June 20: Following federal government reservations about an O-Level Urdu book pertaining to stories about Pakistan, the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) has decided to provide another book to its candidates in its place.
A CIE communiqué said on Tuesday that the University had done away with the requirement of studying specific stories from the book "Pakistani Kahanian", published by a publisher from Lahore.
It was further said that the CIE had provided an alternative set text, "Dastak Na Do" by Altaf Fatima, for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 syllabuses.
About two weeks back, the federal ministry of education had remarked that the textbook, Pakistani Kahanian, contained objectionable material and that it had approached the CIE .
The education ministry, as maintained by its secretary, had earlier also suggested the CIE to get their textbooks reviewed to make their contents suitable for Pakistani students.
The CIE communiqué in question said that the international examining body was currently in the process of revising the selection of texts for the 2009 syllabus.
