KARACHI, June 20: The wheat stock in Sindh during the period June 1, 2004-June 1, 2005 stood at 563,481 metric tons, the Sindh Assembly was informed during question hour on Tuesday.
In a written reply to Ms Sharfunnisa Leghari’s question, Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said that out of the total wheat stock, Karachi had 88.845 tons, Hyderabad 27,842 tons, Dadu 78,215 tons, Badin 1580 tons, Thatta 2,336 tons, Sanghar 53,315 tons, Mirpurkhas 43,284 tons, Sukkur 20,906 tons, Ghotki 29,124 tons, Khairpur 63,712 tons, Naushahro Feroz 46,510 tons, Nawabshah 62,613 tons, Larkana 22,850 tons, Shikarpur 6,692 tons and Jacobabad 15,658 tons.
Answering a question asked by Ms Humera Alwani, the chief minister gave names of the landowners on whose land water courses had been strengthened using cement. He also gave details like survey numbers and expenditures incurred in the work on these Ghotki district lands carried out in the year 2004 up to May 30, 2005.
Similar details were also provided in respect of the lands in Naushahero Feroz and Nawabshah districts.
Excise Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed, in reply to a question asked by leader of the opposition in the house Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, said that no minister for excise and taxation had been appointed during the period January 1, 2003-June 30, 2005.
