ISLAMABAD, June 19: The Awami National Party has said that the situation in Karachi is worsening because of demolition of localities of Pukhtuns on a large scale. Speaking at a news conference at Parliament House cafeteria on Monday, ANP information secretary Zahid Khan said that about 4.5 million Pukhtuns had been living in Karachi for generations, they had the right to live anywhere in the country and any effort to uproot them would be counter-productive. He warned that the situation could result in tension among different ethnic groups.
He said his party believed in non-violence but it was capable of responding to any aggression. He alleged that Pukhtun transporters were being targeted.
He said the ANP would hold a rally in Karachi on June 30.
