KARACHI, June 19: Berthing activity at the wharves is expected to gather fresh moment on Tuesday as 10 vessels are expected to arrive at the outer anchorage, according to KPT sources.
Cargo handling at the port set a new record at 0.210m tons comprising 19,991 tons of export cargo, including 3,550 tons of rice and 2,192 tons of cement and 0.191m tons of import tonnage.
One each rice and molasses loaders are also included in the total, other being with containers, general cargo, crude oil steel and some other imported commodities.
About a dozen ships were berthed on the wharves as the port agencies tried to clear the backlog and accommodated the incoming ones. They are: Lalazar, to offload crude oil, Ding Queen, Nikolas–P, Kao Hang Maru, with general cargo, Yang Jiang He, Maersk Alabama, Kota Jasa, MOL Asannie, with containers, Galaxy Leader and Ocean Highway, with cars.
Sailing was also brisk as 11 vessels, Sinar Bongtang, Kota Teraju, Ocean Haromny, Yang Jiang He, Mearsk Alabama, Shofu, Hyed Park, Jaslo, Jin Ace, Al-Fatah and Ocean Highway, departed while Tai Fe, Kota Jasa, Al-Fatah, Lalazar, D.D. Master, Nikolaos-P, Global Prosperity, Batu, Bolan and MOL Asannie are due to sail out on Tuesday.
The following ships are due on Tuesday: San Nicinolas, to load 16,000 tons of rice, Majori, to load molasses, Swat, with crude oil, Sun Lavender, to load ethanol, CO Aishwarya, Iran Tabatabaei, APl Jable Ali, with containers, Conqueror, with DAP fertiliser, Regine, with project cargo, and some others with steel cargo.
