Murder of alleged blasphemer condemned
ISLAMABAD, June 18: The All Pakistan Minorities’ Alliance (APMA) has appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take sue motu notice of the killing of two blasphemy accused and growing misuse of the blasphemy law in the country.
Talking to Dawn here on Sunday, APMA chairman Shahbaz Bhatti demanded that the government should repeal the blasphemy law and protect the lives of people falsely charged under the law and form a judicial commission to review all the pending cases and release innocent people languishing for years in jails without trial.
He also called for providing appropriate security cover to the blasphemy accused in jails, saying their lives were in extreme danger.
He asked the government to take action against people announcing rewards for those who killed the blasphemy accused and pointed out that the charges against them were yet to be proved. He condemned the killing of mosque Imam Hafiz Qamar Javed by a mob in Bahawalpur and Abdul Sattar Gopang on the premises of Muzaffargarh district and sessions court in police custody.
