KARACHI: Power cuts leave many areas dry

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 18: Several parts of the city have been experiencing acute water shortage for the last one week reportedly owing to frequent power failures taking place at their local pumping stations.

The hard-hit localities include North Nazimabad’s Block N, L, P (Hussain D’Silva Town), parts of Mehmoodabad No 6, Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s block 4-A, Dhoraji, Adamjee Nagar, Jinnah Cooperative Housing Society, Bangalore Town and Al-Hamra Society.

Residents of North Nazimabad’s Block-N complained that lanes 4, 5 and 6 were deprived of water for the last one week and whenever they brought the issue into the notice of KWSB officials concerned, they attributed it to frequent power failures taking place at their local pumping station.

People residing in multi-storied buildings also complained that in the absence of electricity they could not pump water to their overhead tanks despite having water in their underground tanks.

CLOSURE: Water supply will remain suspended in several parts of the city for 36 hours from Tuesday owing to a closure being applied by the KWSB for undertaking inter-connection work of the newly laid lines at Nazimabad Underpass.

The localities, which will go dry from Tuesday morning to Wednesday night, include Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Shershah and adjoining localities, PAF Base Masroor, Mauripur Village, Rexer Lane, Kanupp, Naval Base Manora, Javed Bahria Cooperative Society, Customs Co-operative Society, Pak Colony and its adjoining localities in Site town and Mauripur and its adjacent areas in Keamari Town.
