KARACHI, June 18: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that Wapda has been instructed to explore all options to enhance power supply to Sindh. In this context, he referred to his recent meeting with the KESC management that was especially called in Islamabad.

The prime minister, chairing a meeting at the Governor’s House soon after his arrival here on Saturday evening, said that gradual improvement in the KESC infrastructure would ensure reliable supply to consumers in Karachi.

He was apprised of the measures being taken by the Sindh government to tackle the problem of loadshedding in the city and other part of Sindh.

The meeting was attended by Acting-Governor Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Federal Minister for Information Senator Mohammad Ali Durrani, Minister of State for Information Senator Tariq Azeem and Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui.

The prime minister emphasised the need for timely completion of ongoing development projects, and said he would personally visit some of these projects during his next visit to the city and some rural areas of the province.

Mr Aziz commended the Sindh government for meeting the wheat procurement target well on time and for ensuring that farmers got the right price for their produce.

According to an official statement, the prime minister was informed that adequate water was available for the Kharif season. This would ensure a better crop and improve the lot of the farming community, he was told.

The prime minister congratulated the chief minister for presenting a balanced budget with a development outlay of Rs32 billion, containing several relief measures for people.

Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui briefed the prime minister about the law and order in the province, and said it was improving. He assured the prime minister that there was no let up in the relentless efforts being made to arrest the culprits of Nishtar Park tragedy. “The Sindh administration will not rest until the culprits are apprehended,” he said. —APP
