KARACHI: Power cuts continue unabated

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 18: Residents of different parts of the city suffered another day of power failures and unannounced loadshedding while the KESC maintained that there was no major breakdown on Sunday.

The power supply was suspended in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Korangi Crossing, North Nazimabad, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Ibrahim Haideri and Clifton.

The residents of North Naziamabad Block-H suffered power disruption from 11am to 3.30pm.

Similar complaints were received from Korangi Crossing, Altaf Town, Darussalam Housing Society and Ibrahim Haideri, where people braved hot weather without electricity for more than four hours on Sunday afternoon. They said that if the KESC could not meet the demand it should announce the schedule of loadshedding so that they could plan their programmes accordingly.

A resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar complained that his locality was without electricity from 7am to 8am and from 12noon to 1pm on Sunday. He said that despite repeated attempts he could not get through the KESC complaint cell, as its telephone numbers remained busy.

A couple of complainants from Gulistan-i-Jauhar Block-14 told Dawn that power supply was disrupted a number of times each with 15 to 20 minutes duration on Sunday.

An hour-long power suspension was experienced in the Journalists Society, Block-4A, Gulshan-i-Iqbal. Area residents said that in addition to the breakdown, power fluctuations continued throughout the day, which affected their home appliances.

People residing in Dhoraji Society and near Karsaz Road spent sleepless night, as power supply was disrupted three to four times during the night.

A KESC spokesperson claimed that there was no major power breakdown in any part of the city on Sunday. However, he said that power suspension might have been carried out in some localities due to localized faults.

KU’s request: The Karachi University Teachers’ Society has urged the KESC to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the university and convert its billing category from commercial to residential, as at present the Karachi University was paying its electric bill on a commercial tariff, adds PPI.
