KARACHI: Dismissals criticized

Published June 19, 2006

KARACHI, June 18: The PTCL Telecom Foundation Daily-Wages Action Committee has criticised the decision of new PTCL management about dismissal of 1,900 daily-wage employees all over the country.

In an emergency press conference of office-bearers of the foundation on Sunday, Shah Jahan Shekh, Arshan Ali and Rizwan Muhammad Khan mentioned that at the time of PTCL privatisation, the management and the federal minister had assured that daily-wage employees would be given permanent status but they failed to comply with the assurance. They said that the directives for removal of daily-wage workers would be effective from June 30.

They warned that if the management did not change its decision, a protest movement would be launched and the management would be responsible for the consequences.—PPI
