KARACHI, June 17: Founder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain has demanded that either a new Constitution be drafted or fundamental changes should be made in the 1973 document.

Speaking at the 28th founding day of All-Pakistan Muttahida Students Organization in in London on Friday night, he explained that these changes were necessary in view of conditions surrounding Pakistan after the 9/11 incident in US.

He suggested that the new Constitution be framed by picking equal number of representatives from the country's four provinces, or changes in the 1973 Constitution be made with the consent and consultation of the federating units.

His address was also heard by congregations in Birmingham, Manchester and several other cities and towns of England, according a press release.

Commenting on Benazir and Nawaz Sharif’s claim that they had signed "charter of democracy" to force army out of politics, the MQM leader asked as to who had installed Nawaz Sharirf as prime minister. Did Nawaz Sharif ascended to the post after roaming in streets, and trekking on roads or travelling in buses. Similar question he posed to Benazir.

He said that the people who used to brand each other plunderers and security risk, had united now to collectively indulge in loot and plunder.

The people are intelligent enough to understand the game and motive behind the so-called charter of democracy, he said.

He also demanded immediate end to operation in Balochistan, and said that problems should be solved through negotiations and by understanding each other's point of view.

He also called for end to the system of jagirdari and fuedalism.

He said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s message is spreading through each nook and corner of the country, and up to Kashmir, and he was confident that the speed with which the Muttahida is gaining popularity, a people's revolution is bound to come and when it happens, those plundering the nation will be swept like straws.
