MONTE CARLO, June 16: Justin Gatlin’s record-equaling time for the 100 metres was ratified on Friday by the sport's world governing body.
The American sprinter was originally credited with breaking the world record in 9.76 seconds at the Qatar Grand Prix on May 12, but the time was later rounded up to 9.77 – matching the mark set by Jamaica's Asafa Powell in June 2005 in Athens.
After a review, Gatlin’s time has now been officially approved by the IAAF.—AP
