PESHAWAR, June 16: The NWFP government has projected its development expenditure at a record level of Rs23.84 billion under revised estimates of the annual development programme for the 005-6 financial year. The revised estimates, which will be presented before the provincial assembly in its budget session commencing on Saturday, have surpassed the original size of the ADP.

The province had set Rs21bn ADP for the financial year, of which the provincial government could incur development expenditure of Rs8.1bn during the first nine months of the financial year.

However, on the basis of consolidated figures provided by the departments and agencies concerned, the provincial finance managers and development planners have estimated that the expenditure on development works would settle at Rs23.84bn.

Expenditure against the locally funded component of the ADP has been estimated to settle at slightly over Rs13bn against its initially set size of Rs11.2bn.

Members of the provincial assembly who had been allocated Rs1.24bn — Rs10 million for each member — under the Tameer-i-Sarhad Programme, spent Rs1.4bn.

Similarly, Rs6.3bn is estimated to be utilised under the foreign funded component of the ADP, which originally involved allocation of Rs6.857bn. During the first nine months of the year, expenditure on foreign funded component of the ADP stood at about Rs1.5bn.

A majority of the departments and agencies have come up with reports of expenditures higher than the funds allocated.
