SUKKUR, June 16: Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chief Dr Qadir Magsi has said that feudal lords and landlords are using jirga system as a tool to perpetuate their power but now people are not ready to accept decisions of the jirgas. Talking to newsmen in Jacobabad on Friday, he said these jirgas insulted humanity and everyone was aware that they were aimed at perpetuating their power.
Describing the charter of democracy as a good sign, Qadir Magsi said it did not contain anything regarding provincial autonomy. Gen Musharraf was unconstitutional president and in his presence, holding of free and fair elections was a dream.
If Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan after striking a deal with the government, they would not be welcomed, he said, adding that people’s interest were supreme.
Criticising the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, he alleged that the MQM was using the Sindhi people to achieve their goals, otherwise they had nothing to do with Sindhis.
He said construction of any dam over the Indus river would be opposed, adding that people were ready to sacrifice their lives for the purpose.
He said that despite strong opposition from the three provinces, the government had allocated funds for the construction of the Kalabagh dam in the budget to appease Punjab.
