KARACHI :Landhi Town to buy Rs104m machinery for sanitation


KARACHI, Jun 16: The Landhi Town Municipal Administration has planned to purchase machinery worth Rs104 million to clean the storm-water drains and improve the overall sanitary condition of the town. This was stated by Town Nazim Muhammad Ismail Qureshi while addressing town council meeting on Friday. Naib Nazim Asif Husnain, TMO Nazir Lakhani and Council Officer Muhammad Irshad were also present.

The town nazim said that these machines would significantly help in bringing improvement in the cleanliness of the town. The meeting was informed that some organisations had shown interest in door-to-door collection of garbage and sought cooperation of the town administration in this regard.

The meeting decided that to implement the scheme of garbage collection by charging Rs20 to Rs25 per house per month, and decided to implement it as soon as possible.Expressing concern on the rise in criminal activities in the town, the town nazim directed the officials concerned to ensure stern vigilance on suspicious activities and directed the peace committee to play its due role in this regard.

Besides, the meeting was informed that work had been initiated for the installation of streetlights, cutting of bushes, levelling of roads, and establishing check-posts in the areas where criminal activities are reported.

The meeting also approved to develop a food street to be called “Landhi Food Zone” in the town. The stalls of a wide variety of food from all parts of the country besides international foods will be part of the Food Zone.

SADDAR TOWN: The town municipal administration of Saddar has started cleaning of storm water drain before the start of monsoon season.

Town Nazim Mohammad Dilawar inspected the cleaning work on three storm water drains near ICI Bridge, Akbar Road and Jubilee nullah. He asked the staff to clean these drains in shortest possible time and remove all the garbage from streets and residential areas.

He directed them to disconnect all illegal connections between sewerage lines and storm water drains to ensure that in case of rain water was not accumulated in localities and flush out smoothly from the city.

Town Nazim also urged the people not to throw garbage in the storm water drain.

SITE: SITE Town Nazim Izharuddin Ahmed Khan inspected the progress of work on the under-construction Rehman Baba Stadium in Union Council 6, and directed the officials concerned to expedite the pace of work.

He directed the officials concerned to plant trees alongside the boundary wall of the stadium.

The town nazim, accompanied by Naib Nazim Syed Badshah Khan, TMO Imran Aslam, TO (Infrastructure) Akbar Baloch, KWSB Chief Engineer Qutubuddin Shaikh and other officers, also visited other ongoing development projects in Union Council-6.

Izharuddina Ahmed also inspected the KWSB line supplying water to UC-6 and UC-7 and expressed displeasure over the mixing of sewage in water.

The town nazim issued directives for taking necessary measures to ensure supply of clean drinking water to these UCs besides ensuring to plug leakages on valves.

ORANGI TOWN: The town administration of Orangi has initiated desilting and cleaning of storm-water drainage channels to cope with possible monsoon rains.

Town Nazim Abdul Haq accompanied by town officials and UC nazims inspected the work, which is being carried out with heavy machinery. About 16,000ft-long drains have been cleaned.

The town nazim directed officials concerned to immediately dispose of the waste taken out from drains and spray germicides. He asked the area residents to keep children away from those places where drain cleaning work was underway to avoid any mishap.—PPI/APP
