RAWALPINDI, June 15: An aged man died, apparently, due to fear of police who raided his house to track down a suspected car thief, in the jurisdiction of Saddar Barooni police on Thursday.
The postmortem of the deceased, Ali Shan, aged between 60 and 65, was carried out at the District Headquarters Hospital to ascertain the real cause of his death, the police said.
A case has been registered against a sub-inspector, Mohammad Nawaz, who was leading the police raid, and a naib nazim for illegally entering the deceased man’s house.
Police said Mohammad Riasat, naib nazim of Sayal union council, had lodged a report with the police after his car was stolen. He also gave the police the whereabouts of the suspect and asked them to conduct a raid.
Following the information, a police party, led by SI Mohammad Nawaz and accompanied by the naib nazim, raided the house of Ali Shan in Liaquat Colony, Chakri road, to arrest his nephew Arshad alias Papu, who was a suspect in the car theft case.
On seeing the police, Ali Shan fell fainted and was later pronounced dead by the doctors.
Th police said Ali Shan was a heart patient and he suffered a stroke which claimed his life. The police dismissed the family’s claim that the man died due to police torture.
Sadar Barooni police have registered a case against the police party and the naib nazim on the complaint of Meharban Khan, the brother of Ali Shan.
The complainant, who says he was sleeping when the raid was conducted, alleged that the raiding party started beating the family members, as a result of which Ali Shan fell on the floor and later died.
Our Staff Reporter from Islamabad Adds: A youth drowned in Rawal Lake while fishing on Thursday, the police said.
Tahir Noor, 20, a student of Madressah Noorul Islam, was busy fishing along with his cousin when he lost his balance and slipped into the water.
The victim’s body was fished out by the rescue workers and shifted to a hospital after his cousin informed the police.
Meanwhile, Margallah police lodged an FIR on a complaint of city magistrate against three persons on charges of fraud.
In his complaint, City Magistrate Farast Ali Khan stated that the three persons, Adnan, Amjad and Kosur, were involved in making fake international driving licences.
The matter came to light when a man named Sajad informed the magistrate that his international driving licence, which he had obtained through the accused for Rs3,000, was found fake during verification.
