KARACHI, June 15: The University of Karachi will issue a second admission list for its evening programmes on June 20. The Director Admissions of the varsity, Dr Saleem Shahzad, told Dawn on Thursday that the second list would include applicants who had been waiting for their marks sheets of degree class examinations.
He said that at present, applications were being collected from all those who had submitted their admission forms without degree class examinations marks sheets as their results were not out by that time.
“We have already accommodated, on merit, students having passed their BCom examinations lately, while applications from successful candidates of BSc and BA would be received till June 17,” he added.
In reply to a question, he said that there were about 200 students, who had submitted their admission forms to the university but could not be included in the first merit list as by that time the results of BA or BSc exams were not out. As such, they were not in a position to submit copies of their marks sheets.
He said the second list would include students who fulfilled merit. However, he said that admissions will be given only in departments where seats were still available.
Dr Shahzad said that about 5,000 students had applied for masters and bachelors programmes in the evening shift of the university.
About 2,700 of these were included in the first merit list.
Some 600 claims forms were also received from students who were not satisfied with their placement. About 300 of these applications were found valid.
RESEARCH MODULE: The Human Resource Centre, University of Karachi, has completed a module on research skills in its second staff development programme.
This was announced by spokesman of the institution in a statement on Thursday.
It was pointed out that the programme was conducted at the Department of Physiology, University of Karachi. The spokesman said the module exhorted the participants to understand and apply proper type of research in its true perspective.
The Acting Director of the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhry, Dr Darakshan Haleem of the Department of Biochemistry, University of Karachi, and Dr Rashida Qureshi of the Institute of Educational Development, Aga Khan University, were the resource persons in the module.
They explored different aspects of research such as how to carry out selection of a problem, handling of data, selection of correct statistical tools, etc.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, speaking at a separate programme said that the acquisition of degrees should not be the aim of youngsters.
He was talking to students of the KU’s Department of Economics particularly with respect to the budget.
A varsity spokesman said on Thursday that the VC asked students associated with research that they should minutely study the budget documents as well as the reports of national and international financial institutions.—APP
