LAHORE, June 14: A man allegedly shot dead his father and stabbed to death his step-mother in Hadyara on Wednesday. Amjad told police that his elder brother Jamil shot dead his father, Idrees, 50, and step-mother Farzana, 26. He said the woman had an affair with his brother some years ago, but they could not get married due to opposition from families.

Farzana was married to another man but got divorce some months ago, he said, adding that she together with a child moved to his house in a bid to get married with Jamil.

The police said Idrees, a widower, proposed Farzana to which she agreed. Jamil opposed the proposal but he could not convince Farzana, they added.

The police said Idress accused his son of having raped the woman who, too, gave a statement to the police against Jamil. A rape case was registered against Jamil who had then absconded.

For some months, Jamil had been pressing his father and the step-mother to withdraw the rape case against him but they did not agree. He visited his father last night and opened fire on him, besides stabbing the woman to death. The injured died in a nearby hospital.

A case has been registered and the bodies have been removed to the city mortuary for autopsy.
