WB to fund LBDC work

SAHIWAL, June 14: The remodelling of the Lower Bari Doab Canal will be carried out at a cost of Rs10 billion to be provided by the World Bank.

Sahiwal circle LBDC Superintending Engineer Tariq Jamil told journalists on Wednesday.

He said during the remodelling, heads of all canals which originate from 120-mile-long LBDC would be brick-lined. The banks of these canals would also be brick-lined up to 1,000 feet, he added.

Mr Jamil said the old and dilapidated bridges on the canal would be also reconstructed with the WB funds.

He said the government had approved the remodelling plan, and the WB would release the fund in July this year.
