HYDERABAD: Tando Mohammad Khan to spend 30pc of budget on education

HYDERABAD, June 14: The district nazim of Tando Mohammad Khan, Mir Inayat Ali Talpur, has announced that 30 per cent funds in the district government budget will be earmarked for promotion of education, especially among girls.

He was speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the office-bearers of the All Sindh Masjid Primary Teachers’ Association here on Tuesday.

He said the district government was paying special attention to women education and added that girl students would be given scholarships from primary to secondary level.

The nazim said a separate colony would be established for teachers. He, however, warned that strict action would be taken against ghost teachers.

Later, a seminar was held.

Speaking on the occasion, central president of the association Mr Amanullah Teghani accused the bureaucracy of destroying the educational institutions of the province.

He alleged that the bureaucracy had introduced politics in the educational institutions and regretted that for 15 years, appointment of teachers had been banned.

Mr Teghani announced that his association would observe the current academic year as the year of the development of education.

OSD to the Sindh education minister Ms Mansoor Qadir Junejo said the bureaucracy would not be allowed to destroy the educational system.

He said the Sindh government was making efforts for the development of education section.

PML leader Pir Sajjad Jan Sarhandi in his speech said the educational system in the province had been destroyed and teachers were playing politics.

Abdul Karim Soomro, Ghulam Mustafa Solangi and Huzoor Bux Buriro also spoke on the occasion.

STP: Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has condemned death threats to a Sindh TV reporter, Sarmad Kunrani, and an attack on the channel’s Thul office.

In a statement faxed to Dawn here on Wednesday, he said the violence against the media was increasing because it was exposing the evils of the outdated systems.

Dr Magsi urged civil society activists to perform their due role in protecting journalists. He said his party would continue its full support to newsmen.

TWO DROWN: A youth and a nine-year-old girl drowned in two separate incidents on Tuesday.

Arshad Ansari, 24, drowned in Phulelli canal while swimming. His body has been fished out.

Reema also drowned in Phulelli canal near Nara jail. She slipped and fell into water. Her body was also fished out.

DEMO: People of Makki Shah staged a demonstration at Gharib Nawaz bridge roundabout for non-supply of water to their areas, on Tuesday.
