ANP backs ‘charter of democracy’

ISLAMABAD, June 13: Awami National Party (ANP) central information secretary Zahid Khan has said that his party has, in principle, accepted the ‘charter of democracy’ but it has certain reservations for which a committee has been formed.

Talking to reporters at the Parliament House cafeteria on Tuesday, he said the committee would hold talks with Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to address those reservations.

Mr Khan, who is a former senator, said the ANP believed that until an unbiased election commissioner was appointed, free and fair elections were not possible in the country.

He said there could be no democracy as long as President Musharraf was ruling the country.—Online
