MLO, others record statements in Sangi case

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, June 13: A three-member inquiry committee on Tuesday started probe into alleged negligence of the medico legal officer in the Munir Sangi case. The Sindh chief minister had formed the probe body.

Dr Hadi Bakhsh Jatoi, director-general of the Sindh health services, heads the committee.

Others members are: Dr Ghulam Hussain Shaikh and Dr Ghulam Qadir Kaheri.

MLO Dr Akhtar Dayo said that he had not conducted the post-mortem of the deceased because police had not provided the inquest report.

He said that Mr Sangi’s relatives took away the body and it had not been shifted to mortuary.

The MLO said that from June 3 to 5, investigation police was demanding post-mortem report but he refused because he had not performed the post-mortem.

He said that police picked him up from his clinic on June 5 and asked to issue the post-mortem report.

He said that he could give them a death certificate on the basis of external examination and X-ray reports.

Hadi Sangi, Muqeem Sangi and Mujeeb Sangi, relatives of the deceased, said that they had taken away the body after the MLO had completed all formalities.

When the MLO delayed issuing post-mortem on the pretext that he had not performed the post-mortem, they approached the medical superintendent for second autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.

Police surgeon Dr Allah Warayo Bozdar said that he had asked the MLO for issuing the post-mortem report after relatives of the deceased complained about the delay by the MLO.

The DSP headquarters, who shifted the body of the deceased, could not appear before the probe body as he was on leave.

Dr Hadi Bakhsh Jatoi told Dawn that the inquiry committee would submit its report to the Sindh Chief minister in two days.
