Illegal medicines: chemists, drug stores raided


ISLAMABAD, June 13: The government has launched a multi prong campaign to curb the sale and penalising those involved in manufacturing of spurious drugs in the country, official sources said. In order to ensure availability of quality drugs to the masses at affordable prices, the concerned authorities, on the direction of the ministry of health raided different chemists and drug stores in different parts of the country.

One of the raids was conducted at the premises of Zeeshan Brothers Traders, Block-14, Dastigir, F.B. Area Karachi with the help of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and police force.

Huge quantity of spurious and unregistered veterinary drugs including injectable, raw materials, packaging materials and machines used for the repacking/production of the said drugs were recovered during the raid.

Necessary FIRs have been lodged in the respective police stations and accused namely Sohail Ahmed, Saqib Saghir and Syed Ghulam Murtaza Shah have been arrested by the law enforcing agencies, sources said.

The stocks of the spurious, unregistered medicines along with raw material and packaging materials have also been seized and samples of the same have been dispatched to the Central Drugs Laboratory, Karachi, for test and analysis. “Further investigations are underway,” the sources added.—Staff Reporter
