KARACHI, June 13: The Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town has sealed an illegal hydrant and seized 10 suction machines installed there following a surprise raid conducted by the town’s Nazim, Wasay Jalil, in the Metroville-III area.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, an FIR was also lodged with the Mubina Town police under Section 430/34 PPC against the hydrant’s operators.

The nazim along with other town officials and the police personnel during a raid in Metroville-III in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block-10, found that a huge quantity of water was being stolen from a conduit through 10 suction machines and further sold through donkey-carts and pickups.

Besides having unauthorised water connections, power was also being consumed illegally through 'kunda'.

The town nazim issued directives for sealing the hydrant and seizure of the suction machines, while a case against the responsible persons was also registered.

JAMSHED TOWN: The Nazim of Jamshed Town, Muhammad Arif Ajakia, asked the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board to ensure the completion of a sewerage project at Chanesar Goth, Mehmudabad, UC-4, by the end of June.

NEW KARACHI: In view of the upcoming monsoon season, the Nazim of New Karachi, Hanif Surati, on Tuesday declared emergency in his town and set up a rain emergency centre.

While supervising the cleanliness of a drain, the nazim said that the rain emergency centre would work round the clock in the rainy season.

He directed concerned officers to expedite the work of drain cleaning, so that smooth flow of rainwater could be ensured.

The Superintendent Engineer of the Water Board, Salim Ahmad Siddiqi, DTO (Health) Syed Sarwar Ali and others were present.
