KARACHI: 25,000 given jobs in three years


KARACHI, June 13: Sindh Directorate of Manpower and Training has facilitated more than 25,000 people, including 900 women, with jobs during the last three-years. Around 150,000, including 8000 women, got registered with the employment exchange department during the period.

This was stated in a three-year performance report of Sindh Directorate of Manpower and Training, presented to Sindh Labour Minister Muhammad Adil Siddiqui on Tuesday.

The report said that the Employment Exchange Department of the DMTS was taking all possible steps to facilitate jobless with better employment opportunities in private sector across the province, besides facilitating non-skilled persons with training.

Approximately, 149,475 jobless people, including 7993 women, got registered with the employment exchange department from January 2003 to December 2005, the report said.

Moreover, 7,757 civil and electronics engineers, general duty medical officers, dental surgeons and heavy vehicle drivers also got registered with the employment exchange department, under Essential Personnel Act X of 1948, during the period, the report said.

According to the report, 34 training centres, including 16 technical training centres, four women technical training centres, three apprenticeship training centres, four vocational training centres and seven youth vocational training centres were being run under the directorate, where these individuals were being trained in 30 different trades.

During three years, 6,424 trainers got admitted at these training centres, 3,295 of them completed training and 2,852 trainees appeared in the exams in December 2005, whose results are expected soon. The report also stated that in 2005 alone, 833 trainers completed their training in different short courses. –PPI
