KARACHI: Normal monsoon predicted


KARACHI, June 13: The Pakistan Meteorological Department on Tuesday predicted normal monsoon in the country for this year. The meteorological office stated that in consideration of the met conditions prevailing over the country, the seasonal forecast of monsoon rainfall from July to September would likely to be normal with chances of 10 per cent to 15 per cent variation, which meant that the overall availability of water in the country from monsoon rains would be normal.

It further predicated that absence of the El-Nino phenomenon, which normally suppressed Pakistan monsoon rains, would likely to have no negative effect.

The meteorological office further said that this was a seasonal forecast with confidence level of 80 per cent and meant for planning purpose only. The normal rainfall for July to September for the country is 137.5mm.

In Karachi, warn and humid weather with occasional gusty winds has been forecast for Wednesday.

The maximum temperature in the city is expected to remain between 33 and 35 degrees Centigrade. Hot and dry weather would prevail over rest of the region, added the forecast.

The highest temperature of 46.5 degrees Centigrade was recorded at Nawabshah, Larkana and Sibi while the lowest temperature of 10.5 degrees Centigrade was recorded at Quetta and Kalat hill stations on Tuesday.—PPI
