HYDERABAD, June 11: Athletes from all over province would vie for top honours when the 10th Sindh Games opens at the Niaz Stadium on Monday.
This is the third time Hyderabad was playing host to the games which are being organised by the provincial sports ministry in collaboration with Hyderabad district government.
Besides the hosts, athletes and officials belonging to Karachi, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and Larkana have reached here.
Karachi secured 102 medals to win the last games held in 2000. Hyderabad finished runners up with 42 medals while Sukkur had to be content with third slot with 16 gold medals.
Judo (men), gymnastic (women), kabbadi (men), canoeing, chess, rowing, karate (women), special children event and wrestling have been excluded.
Three events tae kwon do, squash (women) and netball (men) have been included in the games which would be organised at 11 different venues.
The opening and closing ceremonies would be held at Niaz stadium which has been decorated with colourful buntings.
“We are trying to organise the games in a successful way,” said organising secretary Ashraf Ali Shah.
Given the fact that there current month is hit by sizzling heat the organisers had decided to hold most of the disciplines in floodlight.
Sindh chief minister would declare the games open and take salute of participating contingents.
