‘Consumers not being forced to buy additional items’

ISLAMABAD, June 11: Utility Stores Corporation Managing Director Hafeez Ahmed on Sunday said the USC was not forcing consumers to purchase other items worth Rs500 with subsidised pulses and sugar.

Speaking in a PTV programme, he said that besides sugar and pulses, the USC was providing around 1,000 daily use items through its network on three to 10 per cent discount.

He said the consumers were being motivated to also buy other articles being offered on discount.

He said the USC was providing pulses of best quality on discounted rates. He said people in large number were purchasing pulses from the corporation’s stores.

He said prices of pulses in the open market had decreased after the announcement by the government about supplying pulses on discounted rates in Utility Stores.

In reply to a question, he said the USC management was taking steps to increase space in the stores and their number.—APP
