KARACHI, June 11: The Nazim of Shah Faisal Town, Muhammad Imran, on Sunday said that effective and meaningful political awareness among representatives of local bodies will enable them to work better for the welfare of the masses.
He was addressing a four-day training workshop on “Local Bodies System and Political Awareness” for women councillors of UCs and the City Council, at the Town's Council Hall, said a statement.
He said effective training of councillors about how local bodies worked would further strengthen the LB system in the country.
The nazim said the workshop was indeed a good step towards the capacity building of women representatives to equip them with better knowledge for working in a more proper way.
He said all-out efforts were being made by the present leadership to bring about a sustainable development in Karachi. The era of the metropolis’ development has started, he added.
The nazim further said that women folks across the globe were shouldering various important tasks along side men, almost in all walks of life.
He hoped elected women representatives would continue to play their role, and asked them to make efforts for resolving problems of the masses in their respective constituencies.
The town’s Naib Nazim, Akber Ali, TMO Syed Barkat Ahmed Rizvi and other notables were present.
SADDAR TOWN: The Nazim of Saddar Town, Muhammad Dilawar, has said that provision of facilities of water, sewerage, roads, cleanliness, parks and playgrounds for recreation as well as removal of encroachments were among the top most priorities of the town administration.
Addressing an open katchery in UC-3, Kharadar, he said holding such meetings helped in identifying an area's problems and their subsequent solution.
People, on the occasion, brought to the town nazim’s notice their area’s problems including supply of contaminated water, dilapidated sewerage lines, cleanliness, repair of roads and streets, illegal parking, replacement of obsolete electric cables and increase of stray dogs and mosquitoes.
Mr Dilawar issued on-the-spot directives and assured the people of taking concrete steps to permanently address these issues.
He said development works were being carried out across the town on equitable basis with available resources.
“Holding of an open katchery every week in different UCs of the town is not merely a formality. There are meant for taking practical steps to address the problems presented during these meetings,” he said.
He suggested that members of the UCs should also play their effective role in coming up with pragmatic solutions to the problems and issues using their best of capabilities.
He said keeping future requirements in view, they should plan projects that can produce long-term results and that can bring about a positive change in society.
The town’s Naib Nazim, Nasir Taimoori, TMO Mukhtar Hussain, Nazim UC-3 Abdul Razzaq Sangani, UC Naib Nazim, Syed Ashraf Shah and other officers were also present.
BALDIA TOWN: The Nazim of Baldia Town, Kamran Akhter, on Sunday said that active efforts were being made by to streamline the sewerage network of the entire town at an estimated cost of Rs20 million.
He said this while inspecting ongoing development project for streamlining the sewerage network on the 13-D Road, said a statement.
He said the town administration was determined to set an example of providing better facilities to the masses.
He said all possible resources would be utilised for resolving the problems being faced by the town’s residents.—APP
