KARACHI: Protests held against police excesses

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 11: Speakers at a demonstration on Sunday accusing the officials of Shahrah-i-Noorjahan police station of killing Hafiz Naveed demanded that they must be brought to book and punished according to law.

Speaking at the demonstration organised by Pasban at Karachi Press Club, Shafiq Ismail, Tariq Jamel, Shahid Farman and others urged the authorities to institute a high-level probe into the issue to find out how an innocent person had been killed and why the police were not taking any action against the murderers.

They also condemned the agencies for kidnapping over 4,000 Baloch nationalists from Balochistan and demanded that if they had committed any crime they should be arrested, tried in open courts and punished according to law.

They said that the police and other agencies which were responsible for protecting the lives of citizens had become the biggest threat to the citizens.
