Shoaib’s absence a setback: Waqar

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, June 10: Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis said on Saturday that unavailability of fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar for England tour was a great setback and the team would miss him.

“Pakistan is going to play an important series in England and I hope Shoaib will regain 100 per cent fitness to join the team as soon as possible," Waqar said.

He said that he had not seen medium-pacer Shahid Nazir, who has been drafted in the place of Shoaib.

Waqar was of the view that Pakistan’s pace attack was not experienced but he had high expectations from Mohammad Asif, Rana Navedul Hasan and Umar Gul.

He said victory in England would raise Pakistan’s morale which would help them in India where they have to play ICC Champions Trophy in October.

“Win in England will be fourth in a row. Pakistan beat England, India and Sri Linka this year,” the bowling coach maintained.

He gave emphasis to improve line and length of the bowlers during the two-week training camp.
