ISLAMABAD, June 10: Gender Crime Cell handled 52 cases of violence against women received from the minister of interior, adviser on women development and crisis centres across the country during the last two months.

However, in most cases the cell proactively acted on press reports, says a press release. The cell was established at the National Police Bureau, Islamabad, on April 1 to deal with cases of violence against women,

The crimes involved ranged from murder, honour killing, karo kari, gang rape, non-registration of FIR, non-arrest of the accused, kidnapping, abduction, wanni and domestic violence. The cell took up all these cases with the authorities concerned for legal action and in most cases relief was promptly provided to the victims.
