Govt working for betterment of people, says Aziz


ISLAMABAD, June 9: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that government is working to maintain the tempo of the growth achieved during the last few years and its vision is to achieve higher growth with dignity and equity.

Talking to a group of MNAs, who called on him at his chamber at the Parliament House on Friday, the prime minister said that the amount allocated for development projects in the budget would help improve the quality and standard of the life of people, generate employment and alleviate poverty.

The prime minister said that government would spend a substantial amount on providing subsidies daily use commodities.

Mr Aziz said in addition to providing the commodities through utility stores, government was also taking steps to ensure their availability on subsidized rates in the open market.

He said that government was evolving a mechanism to stabilize prices and to ensure availability of essential goods at prices fixed by the government.

He said enough stock of the commodities was available with the Utility Stores Corporation and the government would ensure that no artificial shortage was created.
