Malta score before event kicks off

VALLETTA, June 9: Malta customs said on Friday they had intercepted 21,000 soccer balls carrying fake FIFA World Cup branding.

The balls were found in 600 boxes in a container being shipped from the Far East to Mexico through Malta Freeport.

The Customs Department said it and other customs authorities worldwide had been alerted to look out for fake World Cup branded balls, but this was the first find of this nature.—Reuters
