OKARA, June 9: Four family members were shot dead while two others sustained serious injuries over a marriage issue on Thursday night in Kharl Kalan village, Deepalpur.

Reports said that Kausar Bibi was married to Jamil Ahmed while his sister Bushra Bibi to Ghulam Rasool, the cousin of Kausar Bibi. Later, Ghulam Rasool contracted marriage with another woman, Allah Muafi, which was strongly protested by Jamil. On Thursday, Ghulam Rasool and his wife Allah Muafi came to stay at the house of Ashraf, the brother of Kausar Bibi. On the same night, accused Jamil barged into the house and opened fire on inmates. As a result, Ghulam Rasool, Naziran Bibi, Fatima and Sajida Bibi died on the spot while Ashraf and Allah Muafi received serious injuries. They were admitted to a local hospital.

Hujra Shah Muqeem police have arrested accused Jamil and registered a case against him.

GUNNED DOWN: Two villagers were killed while another suffered critical wounds when fleeing dacoits opened fire on them near Jithiana village, some 30kms from here on Thursday night.

Three highwaymen came to the village on their motorcycle (FDR-4856). In the meanwhile, a raiding team of Okara police appeared on the scene, who came there for the arrest of some proclaimed offenders. Seeing a police mobile van, bandits deserted their bike and beat a retreat. On the way, farmers, who were watering their fields, intercepted bandits and overpowered two of them, but their third accomplice shot dead Shaukat Ali and Khan Muhammad instantly and injured Omar Hayat. He was rushed to the local DHQ Hospital in critical condition.

Later, the police recovered the bike and illicit weapons deserted by dacoits, who managed to escape in the darkness. Bodies of villagers were shifted to hospital for autopsy.

KILLED: A 9th class student was killed by four vagabonds over a dispute for cutting an indecent joke in Seth Colony here on Friday.

Reports said that Shan Khan was extending help to his friends in fixing a cable when accused Babar, Aslam, Iqbal and Shahzad cracked some vulgar joke with the deceased. For rebuking them, the accused fell in a rage, caught the boy and struck his head repeatedly against a wall till he fainted. Later, the accused escaped from the scene. The boy died while being taken to hospital.

A-Division police shifted the body to hospital for autopsy.
