KARACHI: Handicapped people seek special package

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jun. 9: The handicapped people on Friday criticized the government for ignoring them in the budget and demanded that a special package be announced for them.

Speaking at a meeting of the Sindh Disability Forum, they said government leaders usually held many photo sessions with the handicapped people and even promised various facilities for them when speaking at any public gatherings, but afterwards they forget the miseries of the handicapped.

Pointing out that even job quota fixed was being misused and not being implemented properly, they demanded that quota fixed for them in employment be strictly implemented and genuine people be employed.

They also demanded that seats be reserved for them in public transport as they faced great difficulties while traveling in buses etc.

They said that the governments in the developed countries provided various facilities to the handicapped people, but here even their due rights were not being given to them.

Ghulam Nabi Nizamani of the Disabiled People International (DPI), Javed Raees of the SDF, and Atif Shaikh and others also spoke.
