KARACHI: Involvement of private sector stressed: Vehicle fitness certificates
KARACHI, June 9: Taking notice of the increasing air pollution in Karachi, Mohammad Adil Siddiqui, Sindh Minister for Transport, has directed Provincial Transport Authority (PTA) and concerned departments to accelerate the processes of involving private sector in issuance of vehicle fitness certificates to vehicle plying throughout the province.
Adil Siddiqui said that involvement of private sector would not only enhance fitness of vehicles but also help control noise and air pollution.
Meanwhile, the PTA under Role 35-A for Motor Vehicles Roles 1969, has invited automobile companies and mobile workshops to help government control traffic pollution. They have also been offered to take licenses from the Sindh government for checking vehicle fitness throughout the province.
The PTA secretary has sent letters to the companies of international repute, including Toyota Motors, Ghandhara Nissan, Hinopak, Siemens, and Atlas Honda, besides issuing advertisements in national press for inviting expression of interest from interested companies till June 27.
According to Motor Vehicle Roles 1969, it is necessary for all public service and goods vehicles to renew their fitness certificate after every six months from the Motor Vehicle Examination Branch of Sindh Traffic Police.—PPI
